The WiFi sniffing foam drone, its not the best platform and looks to be poorly orchestrated but my my now the ideas out there in a big way it will be copied.

YellowPlane were very lucky to be part of this years airshow along with several others. A small beginning but a nod to the future. No doubt UAS will play an even bigger part of the event in 2012.

Our electrically powered flying wing did little more that a few circles, and it was amusing to note as we flew the commentator on the otherside of the airfield was busy telling the crowd we were grounded because of weather. A few journalists on the other side did notice and take images, even though the much touted FLIR camera failed to see us!

I have a google alert set up for "AUVSI". Everytime AUVSI appears on the internet, google sends me an alert with the context and the link where it appears. This came up on my alerts today, and I'm glad this team put AUVSI in the title, because I think it is a phenomenal display of their work.

The AUVSI Foundation, along with several AUVSI chapters, host student competitions for unmanned technologies. There are hundreds of teams doing fantastic things, so I don't mean to steal any thunder by highlighting one; but this one caught me on a foggy Friday afternoon where my normal job of software integrations and application architecture needed a pleasant diversion to checking google alerts. Until I opened this month's Unmanned Systems Magazine, I didn't think that AUVSI was going to get me engaged in a discussion about standards on their web site.  However, on page 40 in the "Chapter News" article there is a quote from Dan Goldin:  "Wouldn't it be wonderful if AUVSI worked with IEEE to develop an unmanned systems interoperability standard?"
